Happy Halloween

We had our first Halloween as a family of three. Emma was the cutest lady bug you have ever seen. I put her on our front lawn for a quick photo shoot around five. I think about 30 cars slowed to a brake to watch her on the grass. The costume was perfect for her, thanks again to grandma!

On Friday night we went to a Halloween Party at our neighbor's house. Talk about a nice commute- it was right next door. This is the kind of neighborhood where people hang out out front, play, walk, talk, borrow things, etc. We haven't really lived on this type of street before, so it is fun. Being a stay at home mom, I find myself thinking of things that I can do out front so that I have an excuse to run into some neighbors! Silly, but true. So our neighbor invited us over, costumes required. Jeremiah wanted me to whip up some handmade Captain America costumes in the 36 hours that we had. I quickly vetoed this, and instead Emma and I were bugs, and Jeremiah was the evil bug catcher- or ther nerdy bug collector- whatever you prefer.

So I spent Friday getting ready for our big "social event". JJ was running late, so we get to the party about 6:45. Emma quickly reminded me that my social life is now crammed into very short time slots. At about 7:20 the lady bug had expired for the night. So, in my fabulous butterfly costume, I sat at home eating candy, watching On Demand, and laughing at the fact that I actually had mentally prepared for a "fun night out" haha. Jen, you have a six month old.

On Halloween Jeremiah worked late, and I became the Halloween grinch. Emma hadn't napped all day and I quickly realized that (duh) every trick or treater would wake her up. So I hung a note on the door that said "Please do not knock or ring. Happy Halloween" and the very large basket of candy sat sadly inside the house. The only one that got anything was Star who discovered it late that night. It was sad to be a grinch with so many cute trick or treaters squealing with delight outside the door. But, it would have been even sadder to wake the very grouchy ladybug. Ladybugs need their sleep.

Here are some pictures of our attempt at Halloween fun :)

Jeremiah was very excited about his costume, can you tell? He really like his bug catching net ;)

Jen! Why didn't you put the candy OUTSIDE the door??? :)

Don't worry, your life will return - Sam's second halloween was much more eventful (and later) than his first.

We missed you on Halloween, but I imagine it wouldn't have been very fun for you at the Reece house with a crying Emma. Alas, nice work with the costumes!

She IS the cutest lady bug baby in that outfit! Great costumes Jen! Your description of your new neighborhood is exactly what I hope to find someday....it sounds like a wonderful place to make new friends and raise your babies. Sean spent a long time sewing Oliver a superman outfit that was also very cute but Oliver had a major blowout in it around 5 pm so we ended up with nothing by the time all the trick or treaters showed up.... next year should be a little more fun for all of us :) Hope to see you soon! (and your cool new neighborhood!)
